With the last event in California a few weeks ago, the teenage duo of Tyler Maxson and Tyler Gonzalez will return to the track this week at the Virginia International Raceway (VIR). Taking on the penultimate round of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, Maxson and Gonzalez will be behind the wheel of their Copeland Motorsports prepared #27 Hyundai Veloster N TCR machine.

“We are ready to get back after it,” expressed Maxson. “We had a few weeks off, but as a racer, I always want to be racing. VIR is one of those fast tracks that could not only suit my driving style, but our Hyundai Veloster N as well. Looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish and of course, put ourselves in the best position possible to win.”

Located in Alton, Virginia, the 3.27-mile natural terrain road course was one of the country’s first permanent road racing circuits. Known for the fast-flowing layout and famous Oak Tree corner, Maxson and Gonzalez are aiming to be remembered at the track for scoring their first IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge victory if they can be the first to the checkered flag on Sunday afternoon.

“We have had speed and the team has done a tremendous job in the pit stops,” added Gonzalez. “We owe it to them to make sure we are on the podium and that is the goal this weekend. This is the second to last event of the season, and we are aiming to make it a successful one and springboard into the final race and 2022 with some momentum.”

With one practice session on Friday and another one on Saturday, Sunday is race day but not before qualifying rolls on to the track at 8:00am. The two-hour ‘Virginia is for Lovers Grand Prix’ takes the green flag at 2:10pm.
