After a less than desired start to their debut season in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Series, the teenage duo of Tyler Maxson and Tyler Gonzalez are set to challenge again this week at the Sebring International Raceway. After both being named to the Hyundai Junior Driver Program last week, the Copeland Motorsports drivers have their sights sets high this week during the legendary Mobil 1 – 12 Hours of Sebring event.
“First off, I personally need to thank Hyundai for the opportunity to be part of their Driver Development Program for 2021,” explained Tyler Maxson. “It was great to get the news last week, but this week we are fully focused to the task at hand, and that is our event in Sebring. We have the team, the car, and the pace to be up front and that is the goal.”
“It was a tough outing in Daytona with a mechanical issue in the race that ruined any chances of a victory or podium, but that does not deter our efforts for this season,” added Gonzalez. “I want to win. I want to represent Copeland Motorsports, Hyundai and the Junior Driver Development Program on the top step of the podium. That is the goal this weekend.”
Mirroring Maxson’s comments, Gonzalez continued, “Being selected by Hyundai, one of only two Americans and the first two Americans ever to be in the Junior program is an honor. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store.”
As of now, the future for both Maxson and Gonzalez is all about this week. Taking on the bumpy Sebring International Raceway this week, the Alan Jay Automotive Network 120 will take place Friday afternoon and the pair of teenagers are ready to show what they can do.
