Tyler Maxson is ready to kick off the final stretch of his 2023 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge year. Heading to the well-liked VIRginia International Raceway (VIR), Maxson sits tied for fifth in the championship point standings amongst the competitors in the TCR class with 1810 points. Looking for their first win of the season, Maxson will be back paired with Bryan Ortiz in the #91 Van Der Steur Racing Hyundai Elantra N TCR.

“I’m proud of the progress we have made during the 2023 season,” explains Maxson. “Our results have not been representative of our true potential. As the season comes to an end, Bryan and I continue to fight as we close the gap to the competitors ahead of us. We have shown the speed to compete and consistently have run in the top-five throughout the year.”

Located in Alton, Virginia, the 3.270mile, 18-turn track will be hosting multiple series alongside the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge this weekend including VP Racing SportsCar Challenge, Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup, WeatherTech Sportscar Championship, and Lamborghini Super Trofeo.

“It’s always a challenge having so many different series on the same track all weekend. With different tire compounds, track conditions can change very quickly,” continues Maxson. “I think that has been one of our strengths this season as both Bryan and I have an adaptive approach that allows us to find the necessary speed early on in our sessions.”

Having only two days on track, a busy Friday will be highlighted by qualifying late in the day that will set the grid for Saturday’s wheel-to-wheel action. With nearly 24-hours off between qualifying and the race, the Virginia is For Lovers Grand Prix will take place Saturday evening as Maxson and Ortiz aim to find their way to the top step of the podium.
