With another series set to take the first green flag of the 2023 season, the Copeland Motorsports duo of Tyler Maxson and Tyler Gonzalez hope to accompany that green flag with a race-winning checkered flag at the end of the weekend. With Gonzalez pulling double duty and competing in the Toyota GR Cup North America program, Maxson and Gonzalez will fly the Copeland Motorsports colors behind the wheel of a Toyota Supra in the Pirelli GT4 America series.
“I am anxious to see what we can do behind the wheel of the new Toyota Supra,” explained Maxson. “Even with the limited track time we’ve had leading up to this weekend, we feel it’s a strong package overall. I am excited to once again partner with TG in the Copeland program, one that has become synonymous with winning.”
“It will be a busy weekend with five days on track, but as a racer, that is what you want,” added Gonzalez. “Sharing the steering wheel with Tyler is going to be great as we are bringing the band back together, just a few years older, but still entering the event as teenagers. There is some stiff competition in the Pirelli GT4 America program in 2023 but we are up for the challenge.”
Team Owner Dean Copeland commented, “It is our first official race weekend with the Toyota, and I could not be more excited. It is never easy figuring out a new car, but we have a good crew and a pair of great drivers that I think can fight for the win.”
While Tyler Maxson will compete in one class this weekend, he, like Gonzalez, is running a two-series program in 2023. Driving in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, Maxson will double up on race weekends as he also competes in the SRO Motorsports Group-promoted GT4 program. Gonzalez will see double the action on SRO weekends as he competes in GT4 as well as the Toyota GR Cup.
Set to hit the track Wednesday and Thursday for a pair of Promoters Test Days, Friday will be the home for official practice before qualifying and the wheel-to-wheel action commences over the weekend.
