Tyler Maxson and TOPP Racing left Indianapolis Motor Speedway with the Porsche Carrera Cup North America championship lead intact, capping Round Six of the 2026 season with a pole position, a dominant Race One victory, and a hard-fought fifth-place finish in Race Two.
Maxson set the tone in qualifying, topping the field to claim pole position on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. The #77 TOPP Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup driver carried that speed into race day, leading the field to the green flag in Race One and starting on the front row again for Race Two.
Race One went almost exactly to plan. Maxson converted his pole into a dominant, flag-to-flag victory, extending his advantage atop the Mobil Pro Class championship standings and putting himself in a commanding position heading into Sunday’s race.
Race Two proved more challenging. After starting on the front row, Maxson fell back to fifth in the opening laps. He kept pressure on the drivers ahead throughout the race but couldn’t work his way back forward, ultimately settling for a fifth-place finish to close out the weekend.
“It was a really solid weekend for us overall, and we salvaged what we could in Race Two,” commented Maxson. “To qualify on pole and get the win in Race One was exactly what we were looking for, and it’s a great feeling to extend our points lead here. Race Two didn’t go the way we wanted after that start, but we kept pushing and salvaged some good points. Leaving Indianapolis still leading the championship is what matters most, and now it’s about carrying that momentum and rebounding for more at Road Atlanta.”
With the Indianapolis weekend now behind him, Maxson leaves at the head of the championship points table with two event weekends and four wheel-to-wheel races remaining in the 2026 season.
Maxson and TOPP Racing will next head to the Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta for Round Seven, September 30-October 2, a weekend that coincides with the famed Petit Le Mans. Following that event, Maxson will look to earn the Porsche Carrera Cup title over the October 23-25 weekend at the Circuit of the Americas.
